Diamond Jubilee Tea Watching the Thames Royal Pageant

Afternoon Tea, Diamond Jubilee style... Well, I don't mind it I do.

This afternoon was spent with the family riveted to the television, caught up in the excitement of the Thames Royal Pageant. Spike and I made sure we'd made the Queen's favourite sandwiches as part of the Afternoon tea spread on the coffee table...
I'd had the keen help of Spike who made the Jam Pennies single handedly (top left in the image), and of course the red, white and blue pompoms, whilst I made the cucumber sandwiches, cupcakes and laid the table.  King Julien and Tuna were busy finishing off their homework.

We just got the Celebration cupcakes iced in time and ready whilst the warm up to the day's events unfolded...

The children didn't at first realise what this Thames Royal Pageant was all about, even though I'd previously explained... or thought I had.  But once the commentary began, once they saw the boats, they all suddenly disappeared into their bedrooms. They promptly returned, all smart. They'd popped their smart gear on...
We only left the room for moments, but pretty much remained glued to the TV for hours... and almost licked the platters clean...

Now luckily Sky has the red button. So once the day's events had come to a close officially, we pushed the red button to start watching the day again!

Unfortunately Spike went to bed all tearful, unsure as to whether we will have another Jubilee in this Queen's reign. So I promised that meanwhile we will plan a visit to Buckingham Palace and to Windsor Castle, so he can learn more about the British Monarchy and who knows, maybe buy him a special mug so he can think about the Queen every day!

So how did you spend the afternoon?
And what special sandwiches or lunch did you make?
